The Frankfurt School-UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance provides international advisory services and training to financial institutions, governments and the private sector on the implementation of financial products and concepts geared to the sustainable financing of environment-related activities.

The MEbA project is financed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) of Germany through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Since 2008, the IKI has been financing climate and biodiversity projects in developing and newly industrializing countries, as well as in countries in transition. 

Partner microfinance institutions (MFIs)

The MEbA project team is working with five MFIs in Colombia and Peru to promote the inclusion of climate resilience in their business strategies and corporate culture. 

In Colombia

Bancamía is a microfinance institution with nationwide coverage based in Bogotá. Mission: To improve the quality of life of low-income families. Vision: To facilitate the productive development of customers at the bottom of the economic pyramid, through the provision of financial products and services tailored specifically to them.

Contactar is a regional microfinance institution based in Pasto. Mission: To provide inclusive and comprehensive microfinance services, with an emphasis on quality, warmth, and social and environmental responsibility, primarily to rural communities, in order to contribute to improving their living conditions. Vision: To be a business model for primarily rural microfinance activity with a social and environmental emphasis in Colombia.

Crezcamos is a regional microfinance institution based in Bucaramanga. Mission: To contribute to the development of family enterprises, primarily in the rural sector, through appropriate and responsible financial services. Vision: To be the leading provider of innovative rural banking services throughout Colombia by 2022.

In Peru

EDPYME Solidaridad y Desarrollo Empresarial S.A.C. is a regional microfinance institution based in Lima, operated by Caritas Peru. Mission: To provide financing preferentially to small and micro enterprises.

Fondesurco is a regional microfinance institution based in Arequipa. Mission: To facilitate access to financial services for people in rural areas as a way to contribute to improving their quality of life.
