Las microfinanzas para la adaptaci\u00f3n ganan el premio Kipepeo por su alto impacto ambiental en ALC<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>
El nuevo premio anual Kipepeo del PNUMA<\/a>, que reconoce a los equipos y proyectos que demuestran un esfuerzo y un rendimiento excepcionales para alcanzar los objetivos del PNUMA, fue concedido el martes 29 de junio a la iniciativa de Microfinanzas para la Adaptaci\u00f3n basada en los Ecosistemas, MEbA.<\/div>
El premio, en la categor\u00eda de \"Impacto ambiental\", fue aceptado por Marta Moneo, coordinadora del equipo de adaptaci\u00f3n, en representaci\u00f3n de los y las colegas que dise\u00f1aron e implementaron el proyecto. La iniciativa MEbA se centr\u00f3 en explorar el potencial de los microcr\u00e9ditos para catalizar los esfuerzos de adaptaci\u00f3n al cambio clim\u00e1tico basada en la naturaleza para los peque\u00f1os agricultores.<\/div>
MEbA fue implementado en seis pa\u00edses de Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe (ALC), Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, Colombia, Ecuador, Per\u00fa, El Salvador y Costa Rica. El proyecto proporcion\u00f3 acceso a productos y servicios de microfinanciaci\u00f3n a la poblaci\u00f3n rural vulnerable desde 2012 para ayudarles a invertir en soluciones basadas en la naturaleza que conserven y restauren los servicios de los ecosistemas para mejorar las pr\u00e1cticas de producci\u00f3n. De esta forma, se logr\u00f3 aumentar no solo los ingresos sino tambi\u00e9n la resiliencia a los impactos del cambio clim\u00e1tico, como la sequ\u00eda o las inundaciones.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Hasta la fecha, MEbA ha apoyado la distribuci\u00f3n de casi 18.000 microcr\u00e9ditos con m\u00e1s de 30 millones de d\u00f3lares procedentes de inversores privados. El proyecto benefici\u00f3 y form\u00f3 alrededor de 4.500 agricultores y otros productores rurales, un tercio de ellos mujeres, en la mejora de la cadena de suministro y en soluciones basadas en la naturaleza. Algunos ejemplos de inversiones incluyen deshidratadores solares para mejorar el almacenamiento de alimentos, sistemas de rotaci\u00f3n de cultivos, certificaci\u00f3n de agricultura org\u00e1nica, acuicultura y producci\u00f3n de fertilizantes org\u00e1nicos.<\/div>
Sin embargo, lo verdaderamente transformador del enfoque de MEbA es el hecho de que el acceso y las condiciones de los pr\u00e9stamos (tipos de inter\u00e9s, plazos de pago, etc.) est\u00e1n vinculados a una serie de indicadores, entre ellos la biodiversidad y la capacidad de adaptaci\u00f3n, lo que fomenta una mejor gesti\u00f3n de los recursos naturales al tiempo que mejora las pr\u00e1cticas de producci\u00f3n y reduce la vulnerabilidad clim\u00e1tica. Esta combinaci\u00f3n de mecanismos de financiaci\u00f3n innovadores y de adaptaci\u00f3n basada en los ecosistemas ha tenido tanto \u00e9xito que ya se est\u00e1 aplicando en dos pa\u00edses africanos, Senegal y Ben\u00edn, y se est\u00e1 reproduciendo en otros pa\u00edses de \u00c1frica y Am\u00e9rica Latina. La iniciativa MEbA del PNUMA recibi\u00f3 el apoyo financiero del gobierno alem\u00e1n en el marco del mecanismo de financiaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica IKI. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Teniendo en cuenta el significado de Kipepeo, la palabra swahili para mariposa, un animal conocido como s\u00edmbolo de transformaci\u00f3n y renovaci\u00f3n, el trabajo de MEbA realmente encarna el esp\u00edritu del premio y es un ejemplo de la acci\u00f3n a gran escala necesaria para garantizar la prosperidad humana frente a impactos clim\u00e1ticos cada vez m\u00e1s graves.<\/div>
