La microfinance pour l'adaptation remporte le prix Kipepeo pour son impact environnemental en Am\u00e9rique latine et dans les Cara\u00efbes.<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Le mardi 29 juin, l'initiative Microfinance pour l\u2019Adaptation fond\u00e9e sur les Ecosyst\u00e8mes (MEbA, en anglais) a re\u00e7u le prix Kipepeo du Programme des Nations Unies<\/a> pour l\u2019Environnement (PNUE). Ce nouveau prix annuel r\u00e9compense les \u00e9quipes et les projets qui font preuve d'efforts et de performances exceptionnels pour atteindre les objectifs du PNUE.<\/div>
Le prix, appartenant \u00e0 la cat\u00e9gorie \"Impact environnemental\", a \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9 par Marta Moneo, coordinatrice de l'\u00e9quipe d'adaptation au changement climatique, au nom des coll\u00e8gues qui ont con\u00e7u et mis en \u0153uvre le projet. L'initiative MEbA s'est concentr\u00e9e sur l'exploration du potentiel de microcr\u00e9dits pour catalyser les efforts d'adaptation climatique fond\u00e9s sur la nature pour les exploitants agricoles \u00e0 petite \u00e9chelle.<\/div>
MEbA a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en \u0153uvre dans six pays d'Am\u00e9rique latine et des Cara\u00efbes (ALC) : la R\u00e9publique Dominicaine, la Colombie, l'\u00c9quateur, le P\u00e9rou, le Salvador et le Costa Rica. Le projet donne acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des produits et des services de microfinance aux populations rurales vuln\u00e9rables depuis 2012 pour les aider \u00e0 investir dans des solutions fond\u00e9es sur la nature qui conservent et restaurent les services \u00e9cosyst\u00e9miques afin d'am\u00e9liorer les pratiques de production. De cette mani\u00e8re, il a pu augmenter non seulement les revenus des b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaires, mais \u00e9galement leur r\u00e9silience aux impacts du changement climatique, tels que la s\u00e9cheresse ou les inondations.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00c0 ce jour, MEbA a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la distribution de pr\u00e8s de 18 000 microcr\u00e9dits avec plus de 30 millions de dollars provenant d'investisseurs priv\u00e9s. Le projet a b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 4 500 agriculteurs et autres producteurs ruraux, dont un tiers de femmes. Ceux-ci ont \u00e9galement eu acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des entra\u00eenement pour l'am\u00e9lioration de la cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement et l\u2019application de solutions fond\u00e9es sur la nature. Parmi les exemples d'investissements figurent les s\u00e9choirs solaires destin\u00e9s \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer le stockage des aliments, les syst\u00e8mes de rotation des cultures, la certification de l'agriculture biologique, l'aquaculture et la production d'engrais biologiques.<\/div>
Cependant, ce qui est v\u00e9ritablement transformateur dans l'approche de MEbA, c'est le fait que l'acc\u00e8s et les conditions de pr\u00eats (taux d'int\u00e9r\u00eat, modalit\u00e9s de remboursement, etc.) sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 un certain nombre d'indicateurs, notamment de biodiversit\u00e9 et de capacit\u00e9 d'adaptation, ce qui encourage une meilleure gestion des ressources naturelles, tout en am\u00e9liorant les pratiques de production et r\u00e9duisant la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 climatique. Cette combinaison de m\u00e9canismes de financement novateurs et d'adaptation fond\u00e9e sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes a connu un tel succ\u00e8s qu'elle est \u00e9galement mise en \u0153uvre dans deux pays africains, le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et le B\u00e9nin, et qu'elle est r\u00e9pliqu\u00e9e dans d'autres pays d'Afrique et d'Am\u00e9rique Latine. L'initiative MEbA du PNUE a re\u00e7u le soutien financier du gouvernement allemand dans le cadre de m\u00e9canismes de financement climatique nomm\u00e9s IKI.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
\u00c9tant donn\u00e9 la signification de Kipepeo, le mot swahili pour papillon, un animal connu comme symbole de transformation et de renouveau, le travail de MEBA incarne vraiment l'esprit de cette r\u00e9compense et est un exemple de l'action \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle n\u00e9cessaire pour assurer la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 humaine face \u00e0 des impacts climatiques de plus en plus graves.<\/div>
